How long does a MATCH listing last?
Five years from the date it was added, after which the record is removed automatically. There is no renewal, and nothing shortens it except the acquirer that placed it agreeing to remove it early.
Five years, from the date of listing rather than the date of termination. The two are often weeks apart and it is the listing date that counts.
A few practical points that follow from that:
It falls off by itself. No application, no fee, no service required. If someone is charging you a monthly retainer to monitor a listing until it expires, they are charging you for the passage of time.
The clock does not reset if you are declined by other acquirers in the meantime. Being checked is not being re-listed.
A second listing is a separate entry with its own five years. This is why the priority after a listing is avoiding a second one, not fighting the first.
Within those five years you are not unbankable. You are in a smaller market. Acquirers that work with listed merchants exist, they will want to understand the reason code and see what changed, and they will price the risk accordingly.
If you do not know your reason code, that is the thing worth finding out. The difference between code 12, PCI non-compliance, and code 04, excessive chargebacks, changes both your options and whether removal is realistic at all.
