Why was my application declined?

Most declines come down to four things: something on the website, the dispute ratio, a mismatch between the business described and the business found, or the acquirer simply having no appetite for that category at the time.

Providers rarely give a detailed reason, partly because they are not obliged to and partly because the reason is often “this does not fit our acquirer’s book right now”. In practice the causes cluster.

The website. A missing or unreachable refund policy, prices behind a login, a checkout that needs an account, or a claim somewhere on the domain the category cannot support. This is the most common and the most fixable.

The numbers. A dispute ratio above the scheme thresholds, a refund rate that suggests fulfilment problems, or volume that does not match what was declared.

A mismatch. The application says one thing and the site sells another — a different product mix, a subscription that was not mentioned, a second brand on the same domain.

Appetite. Nothing about you. The acquirer has filled its exposure to your category.

The first three are worth fixing before applying again, because applying repeatedly with the same file produces the same answer and leaves a trail. The fourth means the file needs a different provider, not a better application.
